How to play YouTube (web) in the background on lock screen
Keep web YouTube playing after lock on iPhone, and pair it with Sleep Timer for auto-stop.
Overview
Native YouTube apps handle background play differently than mobile Safari. If you prefer the web player—or need web YouTube inside an isolated Space—XBrowser’s built-in player can keep supported streams playing after lock.
Steps
- Open web YouTube in XBrowser and start playback in the built-in player.
- Lock the screen once the media session is active and confirm audio continues on the lock screen.
- For bedtime auto-stop, turn on Sleep Timer so the stream ends after a set duration.
Tips
- Use a dedicated Space for media if you want sleep logins separate from work browsing.
- If a page only plays inside the page player, open it again through XBrowser’s player controls when available.
- Background behavior depends on the site and stream; treat this as best-effort for supported web video.
